About Me: Credentials

I always wanted to be an Interior Designer. When I was 13, my career councilor provided me with an article he found written by an Interior Designer who attended Manchester Metropolitan University. That was it, decision made. I think "Changing Rooms" may have played a part too. So I studied hard and progressed from GCSE's to A Levels and then straight onto University... Manchester Met to be precise. Then followed 3 years of designing imaginary retail outlets. Upon graduation, I worked intermittently at an Architects until eventually I got offered a full time position and began working on Office Designs and Hotels.

It was whilst at working at an Architects that I discovered my love of Technical Drawing (how dull, right?) and my preference for layout rather than finishes. After a few years there, I tired of Manchester and wanted a little slower pace of life (in truth, I despised the morning tram ride and could face it no more) so I hunted for a job in a more rural location with shorter commute. And that took me to sunny Wirral, across the Mersey from Liverpool, and a job with an Interior Design Practice. Unfortunately, this was mid 2008 - the Credit Crunch / Recession gripped the Nation and I found myself unemployed and unable to get a job even at Asda stacking shelves. Fast forward 7 months (which mostly consisted of me writing endless emails and applying literally for any job going) and a chance phonecall landed me a position at a Fitted Bedroom company in Liverpool.

After a year designing Wardrobes, I fell pregnant and nine months later, my Daughter came along and my whole world got turned upside down. In a desperate attempt to regain some sort of control and order, I decided to start a Blog based on Interior Design (right about the time when I had no spare time) so I could keep that part of my life alive. I've now got into a little routine and try to post once or twice a week - mostly about Bedroom design as I would say that is my favourite aspect, but occasionally about other designers, trends and new products on the market. I'm also planning on documenting the refurbishment of our new Family home and am quite looking forward to that.

So thats me in a nutshell. I've had the pleasure of working on an array of different projects with varying budgets, from £millions for a 300 room hotel to £10k for a whole apartment. I love designing and am happiest when compiling schemes. I welcome comments so feel free to add your own ideas, musings, recommendations or questions.
